Demarest Council agrees to reinstate open space tax

Demarest's Dr. Jack Makari, 95; developed skin test for cancer
Dr. Jack G. Makari, a medical researcher who lived in Demarest, spent decades developing a simple skin test to detect cancer. The 90-second Makari Intradermal Test, the subject of clinical trials in the '70s, showed promise. It was approved by British regulators and received its first U.S. patent in 1988, 30 years after the Lebanese-born Dr. Makari began his efforts.

Bergen County Sheriff’s Office to Offer Countywide Gun Buyback
On Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office will partner with local law enforcement to host a countywide Gun Buyback at various places of worship across the county.
